Exhibition: Hailey Guzik — Everything Out of Place

On View at Visitors: 7 February - 4 April 2020

Out of place, in disarray, not belonging. Objects mis-used, discarded, collected. Defined by industry. Rubber, styrofoam, plastic, metal. Altered through recombination. Iconographic; descriptors of landscape. Memories magnified by representations. Eroded by process; time. Wood, rocks, sand, rope, sea. Weathered. Abandoned attempts at mimicry. Of place, of home. Muscle memory. Well tread. Familiar. Distorted.

Everything Out of Place is a collection of new artwork by Hailey Guzik opening at Visitors on February 7th, 2020. Hailey Guzik is an emerging Canadian artist working in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, QC. The exhibition explores social attitudes towards landscapes and the tradition of landscape painting in art. Hailey’s play-driven process results in paintings and sculptures that deconstruct views of well known scenery, referencing areas familiar to her through her experiences growing up in New Brunswick. She remixes the essential components of landscape and figurative painting, blending the natural and manufactured, the perceivable and imagined, and invites us to reflect on our own role in shaping the environment.

Everything Out of Place opens at Visitors (145 Union Street, Saint John, New Brunswick) on February 7th, 2020 at 5:00 pm.  View event details.
